Who We Are

Cymbidium Farmers CBO is a community based organization in Homabay County, Nyanza region in the Lake Victoria Basin. It was started in 2007 and registered with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Development (Department of Gender and Social Services) in 2011. The organization began with 80 farmers but has grown overtime to the current membership of 550 of which 300 are female while 250 are male.
Value Addition
The CBO has trained farmers and groups on micro-production of value added products i.e. chips, crisps, andazi/chapati & banana jam which are locally sold. These products are produced at small-scale due to lack of equipment/tools and seed-capital to scale it up.
Financial Services
The CBO has been providing financial training to farmers and so far it has seen 105 farmer groups adopting Village Saving and Loaning Association schemes with 80 farmers actively involved in the project with a good savings scheme.
Medical Products & Services
Cymbidium Medical and health services deals with herbal products of different plants on earth is a registered organization in Kenya. Products of cymbidium medical & health services are reputed to treat a minimum of Three Hundred (300) diseases.
Lobby and Advocacy
Inclusion of Agroforestry and SALM practices in the county’s agricultural policies to ensure its implementation & scaling up to entire county farming population. Sensitize farmers on the implementation of 10% tree cover on agricultural land in collaboration with other stakeholders/partners in Nyanza Region.
SALM Methodology/Practices
The CBO has facilitated several trainings & adoption of SALM practices among farmers which includes: Agro forestry farming, Climate change Mitigation & adaptation, Soil & Water conservation, Agronomical practices, Nutrient Management, Integrated Pest & Livestock management, Renewable energy ,Rehabilitation & restoration of degraded land as well as minimum/reduced tillage & residue waste management.
Agro forestry and Tree Planting
With support of Cymbidium CBO through procured Agroforestry materials & tree planting campaigns, since inception Cymbidium farmers has facilitated planting of 200,520 long-term trees both on agricultural farm land & public facility (degraded land and affiliate schools).
